Measuring For A Bypass Track
This type of track is needed when there is no wall space to slide your door(s), or simply an insufficient size wall.
You will need 4 main measurements to choose the best size for your space:
- Height of door opening
- Width of door opening
- Height floor to ceiling
- Size of the wall to the side where the door will slide (if this is applicable)
Example:
- Height of door opening is 82”
- Width of door opening is 60”
- Height floor to ceiling is 96”
- Size of the wall to the side is 15”
For this scenario, a set of standard sizes would be perfect. To figure out the size needed, add 10” to your door’s width. Our door’s width in this situation is 60”. Adding 10” brings us to 70” of door. Two 35”x85” doors would be ideal. The 10” we added will allow a 5” overlap in the middle where the doors bypass one another on the track. The remaining 5” allow 2.5” of overlap on either side for sound and light pollution. The 96” ceiling height leaves no concern for the track system. Ordinarily, 6” above the height of your chosen door is needed for your track system. On a standard 85” door, 91” is the minimum measurement you would want to see for a floor to ceiling measurement.
